About the presenter:

Mario Garcia been redesigning publications for 40 years and has personally collaborated with more than 550 news organizations, from global newspapers like The Wall Street Journal, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and Die Zeit, to local outlets like The Charlotte Observer and the Lawrence (Kansas) Journal-World. He founded the Graphics and Design program at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies and remains a faculty affiliate. He started his teaching career as a journalism professor and publications adviser at his alma mater, Miami-Dade Community College, and has taught at Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications and the University of South Florida. He is strongly committed to the idea that content is what determines the success of publications and websites; his work and teaching is based on a philosophy that combines writing, editing, and design as basic principles for effective communication of ideas. He is a recipient of the Society of News Design Lifetime Achievement Award, and People Magazine en Espanol has selected him among the 100 Most Influential Hispanics.
