Print Master Class

By Scott Dadich

SKU# W1962

Traditionally, magazine designers and editors have been well-equipped to create compelling experiences in print, but highly crafted digital formats have proven more elusive. With the onslaught of the iPad and other tablets due out shortly, Scott Dadich will talk about how Wired and Condé Nast are leading an industry-wide revolution in how people experience and consume magazines.

In this Master Class you'll learn:

  • How to effectively design for the tablet
  • The pros and cons of the digital reading experience
  • Plus, he'll explain why digital readers don't spell the end for printed publications

About the Speaker

As Executive Director, Digital Magazine Development, Scott Dadich is leading the creative efforts to build digital editions of Condé Nast's titles for electronic reading devices. From 2006–2010, Dadich was the creative director of Condé Nast's WIRED, where he oversaw design, photography, and production for the magazine. He led the development of WIRED for iPad, which was introduced in May 2010 and became Apple's App of the Week within days of its release. The app was downloaded nearly 100,000 times in its first month of availability and has been shown to be the most successful magazine for iPad thus far.

More recently, Dadich worked closely with the editorial and art teams at The New Yorker to launch The New Yorker Tablet Edition, which debuted at #4 on the iTunes Top Grossing apps and has since been named the best publication app by iMonitor.

What Print Magazine's Editor in Chief, Michael Silverberg, has to say:

For anyone interested in translating magazines onto the iPad, there's no better resource than Condé Nast’s Scott Dadich. In fact, as we’ve been readying the first iPad edition of Print, we’ve turned to him for advice. Here, he offers an invaluable primer to creating beautiful, user-centric editorial design on the tablet.

Publishing on IPad - Great Review by Donniece Smith

Sometimes all of these rapid technology changes bring me a sense of dread. But there are some clearly exciting possibilites for design and designers as digital media develops. Thank you Scott for the clear presentation.

Well worth my time--Excellent Review by Magda Saina

This was an excellent and thorough presentation by the articulate Scott Dadish! His presentation was very well put together and gave me the background for what the digital trends are an why.I especially liked the stack explanation. However, I would have liked to see more examples of the rich media and iPad final products, liked WIRED. I know one can only do so much in one hour, but I was hoping to see a sample of the Mars in action.Maybe next time. Thank you.

Very inspiring! Review by Donnelleigh

I found Magazine Publishing on the iPad to be enlightening and inspiring for print media projects for which I see digital potential. The workflow and keeping the same designers on print and digital versions is fantastic.

Magazine Publishing on the iPad Review by Karen Davis

very inspirational, the graphics were well done and made it very enjoyable to watch. I will definitely have to view this again as there was a lot of information that is new to me. Too much to to be processed in the first go around.
